Salford Rum and Black Rum
The story behind Salford Rum and Black Rum
When we launched Salford Rum in 2018 we would hand deliver orders around Salford and Greater Manchester.
Our early customers would tell us great stories of them, their parents and grandparents working on the docks. They’d tell us about the imports received into salford docks, rums and other imports. Time and time again they’d mention one drink. Salford Rum and Black Rum
What is Rum & Black?
Typically a blend of rum with blackcurrant cordial or crème de cassis, Rum & Black was enjoyed down the working men’s clubs around the docks and throughout Salford. This is our take on a classic. The drink of the dockworkers. Salford Rum & Black Rum
Crafted at The Dirty Old Town Distillery in small batches and produced with locally sourced blackcurrants from The Promise Co. to deliver a smooth, sweet and moreish blackcurrant liqueur with a warming rum hit. The bottle, as ever, features our Salford Docks map print design by local artist Dave Draws. The glass is a sprayed purple with a sliver print, and the ship canal area clear so you can see the rum inside.

Rum is made by fermenting and then distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. The distillate, a clear liquid, is usually aged in oak barrels. It’s produced in nearly every sugar-producing region of the world, such as the Philippines, where Tanduay is the largest producer globally.
